Question Connection / Laptop issues...

Hey folks,

I recently purchased a laptop for school this fall and today I installed my favorite free online game, GW. Upon attempting to log on my assassin, I noticed a problem: While attempting to download the map files for the current place I was in (program was just installed), the little bar at the bottom would constantly say "connecting," with a few split-second glimpses of the "downloading" message. I noticed that also while trying to download my copy of Half Life 2 onto this same laptop, that steam would stop the download or I would end up getting a very low transfer rate.

This laptop is way beyond the minimum req's for GW (I easily run it on full on my less powerful desktop) and I have a fast cable connection via a wireless on my laptop. I am right by the router, and my signal is marked as being "excellent." Any idea on what can be done to fix this? I am gonna need some kind of distraction once school starts, and GW would be just the thing to get me away from math work.

Thanks for reading, and any help I can get on this is much appreciated.
